Concerning the Utopian marriage custom of allowing both groom and bride to see each other naked before marrying seemed absurd to me too. In a place where Utopians think that "everyone should be legally protected from deception beforehand" (pg. 516) I found it quite shallow that they should inspect each other as such. Don't deep, lasting bonds occur between people in other ways such as similar beliefs/values, common interests or backgrounds, and intellect rather than on beauty? Much more profound is the connection of minds, not just of aesthetic beauty. It's what's inside that counts! Just my two cents.

Also, I found it quite amusing that in Utopia, women may marry at 18, while men may at 22. Does this prove their realization that women are quicker to mature? :o)
